Following in his father’s footsteps, Sean Russell has completed his first year working for MIS Fuel Monitoring as a post graduate management trainee. As well as learning the ropes, Sean has made an important contribution by helping the company to implement improved business management processes.
Sean decided to join Merridale after securing a business degree at Wolverhampton University.
“Apart from work experience this is my first full time employment and I was happy to start on the shop floor and get a good understanding of the products and the Merridale business process,” says Sean.
“It has been an interesting time and I have learned how important it is to balance inventory with production schedules in order to control costs and maximise profitability.”
From cost accounting, Sean has turned his attention to marketing by helping to staff the Merridale stand at the Eurobus exhibition, where he was able to get a feel for the industry sector and meet some the Merridale customers and business associates.
“It has been a fascinating 12 months so far and I have certainly been able to apply skills and knowledge acquired from my studies into the practical realities of a small batch manufacturing engineering business,” says Sean.
