Redhurst Quarry, which is a part of the Ibstock Brick Company and predominantly supplies their clay, had a new Merridale tank and pump installed in May 2023 to refuel their fleet of 10 heavy-duty plant vehicles.
Darren Glasse, Quarries Support Manager for Ibstock at Redhurst, told us “Before Merridale we had a 40-year-old storage tank that was fitted with a run-of-the-mill fuel dispenser that anyone could access. It just had a clock-like feature that you had to zero after each use to monitor everything. We had no reporting at all, so keeping on top of stock and spending was a struggle, never mind checking on environmental impact data.”
The upgrade included a 20,000-litre tank fitted with a Merridale MX-I fuel pump with built-in fuel management system and a Merridale MX-T tank management system. Merridale’s MX-I is a top-of-the-line fuel pump with an integrated MX-M fuel management system that is capable of controlling up to three additional pumps. They have been tested vigorously to ensure they have a high accuracy metering to 0.25% of throughput and are built to withstand rugged fleet use in harsh conditions for more than 10 years.
When asked how well the systems had performed under harsh conditions, Darren replied “Since installation, we really have tested it out! It’s standing up to some very heavy usage and we’re having no issues with it at all. Being a working quarry, you can imagine the type of conditions and treatment the kit is getting so it is vital that we have a robust system in place.”
Tanks purchased through Merridale come with many safety and security features, including an anti-vandal roller cabinet door to protect the built-in pump and mounted tank management system. As standard, the Merridale MX-T tank management system features a highly accurate gauge with precision pressure probes and overfill sensors, as well as having the functionality to interface with the Merridale fuel management system for reconciliation reporting.
By transferring the data to the Merridale FuelWorks web-based service, via the fuel management integration, you can benefit further from fuel stock prediction, automatic delivery detection, low-level warnings, and order prompts, all accessible on any web-enabled device.
On FuelWorks, Darren also said “The Merridale software is very simple to use. I was given the basic training when we first signed up and once set up I quickly picked up the rest on my own. Navigating your way around the different reports is pretty easy and everything I need is there.”
